This day has had to be adjusted quite a lot because of the rail replacement bus services on the original route, and also due to fatigue at the end of the project. It nevertheless is a fitting end to the main loops of #CrossBorderRail! And disruption on Day 39 caused further changes to Day 40!
The route crosses from Slovakia to Austria at Marchegg, a border with a solid regional service that is also being upgraded and electrified. Then it will cross from Austria to Czechia at Breclav, a border that has a solid long distance service (at least every 2 hours), and a solid regional service. I will then get off the EuroCity train at Kolín and route across northern Czechia to Liberec on branch lines. From there I will take the train to Dresden that goes into Poland for about 4km (although there are no stations on the section in Poland), and then on the section to the west of Zittau – near Neusalza Spremberg – the line cuts through about 1 kilometre of Czechia again. The route from Liberec to Zittau has good regional connections, but no long distance service. And the day will end on the EuroCity train from Dresden Neustadt to Berlin Hbf (tief).
And then if I manage all of that I will be home in Berlin!
