Please note: the definitive timetable for #CrossBorderRail 2023 is always the one in the Google Sheet. The full route map is on umap here.
I crossed most of the Sachsen-Czechia borders in 2022 – but there is an interesting one missing. A service that starts in Děčín in Czechia, runs into Germany through Bad Schandau, and then re-enters Czechia to Rumburk. While the long distance services between Dresden and Czechia are good, the regional trains are restricted to this little diesel train once an hour, although in keeping with many Czech borders, at least something runs!
From Rumburk there is a line to Ebersbach in Sachsen, but no passenger trains run on it, so here I will take to my bike. A Rumburk (CZ) – Ebersach (DE) – Löbau (DE) service would make a lot of sense I think, and it has been vaguely talked about for some years. I will then take a steam train on the Ebersbach – Löbau line, that happens to be running on the right day!
From Ebersbach it’s back to Berlin – re-planned due to the DB strike (that was then cancelled!)
Borders crossed
(by train) Sebnitz (DE) – Dolní Poustevna (CZ) – active line with passenger traffic
(by bike) Jiríkov-Filipov (CZ) – Ebersbach (DE) – active line with no regular passenger traffic
